While the biennale’s theme was “Recycling Socialism”, there are no obvious soviet-era references in the identity. Instead, the past was addressed as layers in both physical and emotional space which can be viewed though the die-cut hole. The idea was implemented in both printed and electronic communication, with pre-designed and incidental background layers. The restricted colour scheme refers to the concrete tower blocs of Väike-Õismäe, the district chosen for the vision competition.
