ATMO is a helmet concept for motorbikes in collaboration with IED and GIVI. The project has selected for ADI design index in 2012 and published amongst other selected design projects.

SMA* spring expands as the hot air enters through the air intakes , moving the vent cover and opening the passage to the air channels. Air is travelled through the channels into the helmet , ventilating it and finally leavingfrom the back air intakes , creating a constant circulation of fresh air and keeping the helmet cool during hot weather.

SMA spring shrinks as the cold air enters through the air intakes , moving the vent cover and closing the air channels. Cold air enters and leaves the air intakes without entering inside the helmet , thus keeping it warm during cold weather.
Nickel titanium, also known as nitinol, is a metal alloy of nickel and titanium, where the two elements are present in roughly equal atomic percentages. Nitinol alloys exhibit two closely related and unique properties: shape memory and super elasticity (also called pseudo elasticity). Shape memory is the ability of nitinol to undergo deformation at one temperature, then recover its original, undeformed shape upon heating above its “transformation temperature”. Source: Wikipedia.com
