Overall Goal
This project is something I worked on outside of class for a customer (i.e. a commission). Their intentions was that I create an illustration for a t-shirt that would be available at the school that they attend. They sent me a sketch of what they wanted and in doing so, I created the piece.
What I was trying to establish is a black woman without having to immediately go to black or brown skin to show that she is black. Rather, I went to other cultural aspects such as her hair and facial structure to show another point of view of what it means to be black.

The individual sent me a really loose sketch she quickly drew. Based on that and conversating, I refined the sketch and continued to refine throughout the period of this piece.
