The Institute’s 1905 original structure, a four-story building on the National Register of Historic Places and located in the National Historic District, required complete upgrading to accommodate new programs for visitors, students and staff.  Following a conditions assessment, initial planning pinpointed several demanding constraints, including continued normal operation throughout the renovation of the 48,000-SF complex.
