Illustrated narrative – internship reflection

“Pensamentos/ pensa menos” is an illustrated narrative that expresses a post-internship reflection of my experience as a designer at a non-profit organization. Through this editorial object, it’s possible to carry out two distinct but complementary readings, in turn, a verbal reading and a visual reading.  Using digital illustration as my graphic expression, I seek to communicate my experience in a succinct and sequential way, highlighting this visual journey of the experienced process which, aided by the text, also incorporates some observations about my journey, throughout the internship. This introspective exercise comprehends a set of nine illustrations (including the cover), all meticulously executed that, being produced to be looked at from my perspective and absent of any human representation, provides a poetic feature to the narrative, aiming to portray my experience while transporting others to my point of view. Through this project, I registered my thoughts, which in turn originated the title of this book (pensamentos = thoughts). The title “pensamentos” is transformed, through the representation of its shadow into “pensa menos” (which means “think less”), by removing the “t” and inserting a space in the middle. This “think less” is an allusion and a response to my excessive thought pattern, associated with my mental health during this stage. Therefore, it is through an informal speech and illustrations with diaristic nature, that I cover different topics, such as the pandemic situation, the skills I acquired, among other issues. The visual narrative begins with monochromatic tones and was manually (but still digitally) painted with the color palette of the organization throughout the book, completely occupying the canvas in the last illustration, where we can see a connection with the first one in which there is no color yet. This intends to symbolize this idea that I gained a few more experience, a few more colors along this journey.
