RAILWAY FRAGMENTS

Railway Fragments
The photographic project “Railway Fragments” explores the railway stations of Palermo Notarbartolo, Palermo LolliPalermo Giachery, Palermo Francia, and Palermo Centrale through the lens of black and white
Each shot represents an opportunity to explore the interplay between light, shadow, and geometry.

Composition: The arrangement of tracks, signals, and buildings was carefully considered. Symmetry and balance were crucial in creating harmonious images.

Contrast: Black and white photography amplifies the contrast between different surfaces. The texture of the tracks, the roughness of the walls, and the shine of the trains were highlighted.

Depth of Field: By adjusting the aperture, various depths of field were achieved. Some photos showcase sharp foreground details, while others blur distant objects.

Exposure: Lighting conditions in the stations vary significantly. Exposure settings were adjusted to capture both shadowed areas and those illuminated by sunlight.

Fleeting Moments: Waiting for the right moment, such as when a train enters or exits the station, added dynamism to the images.

The shots were corrected in post-production using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom.
