في أوائل فبراير 2012 رسمت الشرطة العسكرية عددا من الخطوط الحمراء في المنطقة المحيطة بوزارة الدفاع، في ظل الخوف من اشتباكات عنيفة مع المتظاهرين (مع الانتقادات المتزايدة ضد سياسات المجلس الأعلى للقوات المسلحة). مع كل مسيرة احتجاج إلى مقر الوزارة، كانت تغلق جميع الطرق المؤدية إلى المنطقة عند هذه الخطوط بالمتاريس والجنود المسلحين والأسلاك الشائكة، والمركبات العسكرية. وسبق ذلك جدران وحواجز من الكتل الخرسانية حول السفارة الإسرائيلية، ووزارة الداخلية و محيط ميدان التحرير.

In early February 2012 the military police drew a number of red lines demarcating the territory surrounding the ministry of defense, in fear (with rising criticism of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces policies) of violent clashes with protestors. With every march heading to the ministry to protest, all access routes to the area were closed off at these lines, barricaded with armed soldiers, barbed wire, and military vehicles. This was preceded by concrete block walls and barricades around the Israeli embassy, the ministry of interior and Tahrir square. 
Public and civic space is dissected. 
Two parallels... A city for the people... and a city for the authority.
