Teen Party Wear ages 13 - 19 Years - Designed for Sugar Magazine
This project was to research Sugar Magazine as a styling project by creating a magazine article and to make a garment which would fit in to the magazine going by the type of clothing which was advertised. The main retailers featured in the magazine were Topshop, River Island, ASOS, Primark and Miss Selfridge due to this being a teen magazine which is designed for 13-19 year olds these retailers were suitable for this age group due to the cost of clothing from these retailers as well as the overalllook of the garment. I combined frills in with my designs also looking at Twilight New Moon as this was a popular feature in the magazine and also on the website at this time so I chose to have this as a key inspiration towards my garments and also my photoshoot. I experemented with different ways of creating frills using various fabrics, sizes and shapes but decided on lace for the frills because it fits in with the Twilight theme and also because it allowed me to create lots of texture for the frills as lace does not fray leaving a clean cut edge the the edges. Under the frills is printed black cotton which was visable when there is movement showing the pattern underneath the frills, for the lining I used polyester within the colour theme for each dress.
The photoshoot was at The Chained Oak in Alton, Staffordshire mainly because of the story behind the location with a curse set on the tree by a witch years ago that each time a branch falls a member of a mans family whom would not give her a lft whilst she was sitting out in the rain would die. After the curse was made he chained the tree up which is why it is covered in chains and if you look close up to the tree it is clear that the chains have been there for many years due to the branches overgrown across the chains. The location also gave a huge impact on the theme and the photos came out very well.
