- THE BRIEF -

I was tasked by SisterMAG to create illustrations for an online editorial promoting Logona Naturkosmetik’s solid shampoo bar featuring hemp as its primary ingredient. The editorial aimed to educate readers on the cosmetic benefits of hemp in beauty products, the advantages of using shampoo bars, including their environmental benefits, and proper care for the product.

The illustrations include a meticulously detailed and scientifically accurate portrayal of a hemp plant and its leaf. The illustration was designed to highlight the plant's anatomy, including its leaves, flowers, seeds, and fibers.

Additionally, accompanying illustrations depict the product being used, providing visual instructions on how to care for the shampoo bar. This includes demonstrating how to allow the shampoo bar to dry after use using a net bag, and how to create lather with a natural loofah. The client also requested an illustration of the shampoo bar with foam to showcase its appearance when used.

- THE PROCESS -

In order to contextualize the shampoo bar illustrations, I chose to place them against a tile background, to create the impression of the product being used in a bathroom setting.

The line and color work was executed using Procreate on an iPad, before being finalized in Adobe Photoshop. Creating the illustrations digitally allowed me to layer the composition elements, providing the client with complete flexibility in terms of layout.

I presented Logona with both black and white line drawings and full-color versions of the illustrations, as they hadn't determined the visual direction for presenting the material at the time of the brief. This approach offered them flexibility in their decision-making process. Ultimately, they opted for the color version, deeming it more visually appealing for capturing readers' attention and enhancing the overall aesthetic of the visuals.
