Recycling used to be a rather easy process that has been practiced for generations, although out of necessity rather than pleasure. However, thriftiness has been forgotten in modern times, with individuals content to consume and discard without a second thought. Dressing up in our parents’ or siblings’ clothes or even the custom of crafting garments from old ones in the house is an age old tradition. It was part of our sustainable lifestyle. Nowadays, the aforementioned customs of are a rare scene and with time, it is becoming obsolete as a result of people’s increased reliance on mass produced clothing. In order to push people towards living a sustainable lifestyle, these strategies can also be used on the industrial level. This collection is very close to my heart. It brings back my childhood memories revolving around my mother - a very creative person who could create anything new out of whatever she found. Since then, I have learned that what matters in life is making the most of what you have. This idea of repairing and mending has inspired me to this date. The collection is a trip down the same memory lane...and each piece has gone through a tremendous amount of pattern manipulation and adjustments. This collection was showcased in the Fashion Graduate Italia 2023 with complete five ensembles.
