Wayfinding System for RIT

Earlier this year the SPAS Gallery received a donation from William Harris, a Graphic Arts and Photography alumni. With this donation the gallery was remodeled for the first time in over 30 years.  In the past, RIT has tried introducing different sign systems to update its look. At the moment several sign systems are currently in place.  Currently, none of the signs at RIT reflect the new name change. This leads to many new patrons becoming confused or lost within the school and needing to ask for help.

My goal was to create a new sign system that could be used through out RIT, and reflected RIT's passion for recycled materials and a more green campus.
This is one of the first signs visitors see when they enter RIT.  The arrows and lettering would light up at night for better visibility.
This is a prototype of a parking sign that would be seen at RIT. It would consist of cement and acrylic and the letters would light up at night to help visitors see better.
This new outdoor building sign can be seen from a distance and describes the activities that take place here.

This is my proposed idea for a directory in the Booth Building. Previously visitors had trouble finding class rooms because when they entered the building they believed they were on floor one. This new directory helps visitors identify they are on floor two, and which direction they must proceed to get to their final desitination.
This floor directory in the stair well reminds visitors what floor they are on as well as key rooms that are found on that floor. The information is large enough that visitors will be able to see it easily from any part of the stairway.
This particular stairwell is tricky if one is not familiar with the school. I added this long arrow with a list of key places on the floor so that guests would not make a wrong turn and enter the Booth Building.
Proposed sign for the William Harris Gallery. It consists of a sedar base with a smaller white piece on top. The letters would be cut out giving the sign depth and drama.
