OTHERWORLD: New Frontiers
Company: The Dream Corporation

OTHERWORLD provides guests with immersive virtual reality experiences in venues situated across the United Kingdom.

The task was to create a 3 second animated ident for the OTHERWORLD: New Frontiers introduction video which was shown to guests in virtual reality. Through communication with the Chief Creative Officer, I was able to understand the needs and requirements for the project.

The New Frontiers sub-brand's focus is to transport guests to different experiences throughout the multiverse. The visual design direction was to emphasise a virtual wormhole with darker blue and purple colours. Constant design iteration was critical to ensure project success.

Scope of work
Creating 3d models and shaders
Staging, lighting and rendering

Software used
Blender 3D

Visual Design Iterations
The wormhole design evolved through different stages. A visual wireframe animation was added to emphasise the digital nature of the experience.

Behind the Scenes
The animated scene contains multiple different parts working seamlessly together.
The logo text was retopologised into quads, making it easier to apply modifiers and shaders. To everything move together, the logo, motif and lights were parented to the camera. As the frames progress, the scale of the logo is keyframed to increase, making it become larger to show a sense of grandeur.

A cylinder becomes an animated wormhole with the help of a noise texture, displacement modifier and empties. As the camera moves forward, they create a cool animated wormhole tunnel effect.

To create the virtual wireframe effect, I duplicated the outer cylinder, scaled it down, increased the displacement and used a wireframe modifier. I plugged the colour ramp into the emission shader. This made the wireframe stand out while having a slight glow effect that added colour to the overall scene.
