Magazine Cover Concept
I wanted to make a magazine cover that pays homage to Supreme culture because it dabbles in skateboarding, fashion, and photography which I take inspiration from. Supreme is a well-known brand that has influenced pop culture and I decided to see what design a magazine cover for this brand.
Ideas, Thought Process, and Sketches
I wanted to look up some images of what a supreme cover layout looks like and I found reference photos of older and recent examples. The older magazines have a simplistic layout showcasing a person along with the bright red Supreme box logo using Future Heavy Oblique font. The newer graphics that Supreme has released featuring Lil Yachty a well-known rapper in clothing by the brand. I wanted to mesh both of these design layouts into the design. Before I started designing, I had the idea of putting my spin by adding flair and leading lines to have my design pop out to viewers. Also, for the photo I chose, it is black and white which I decided would go well with the red Supreme uses for a majority of their logo designs. I sketched out some layouts with my design idea in mind and during the design process I shifted the layout to cater to the photo I chose.

During my design process, I chose to use different styles of Futura typefaces such as the name of the person in the photo being in Condensed Extra Bold so it would match with the largest type in my design. My first idea had a washed gray blending into the box logo in the bottom left corner, but the assist did not feel embedded well with the photo. Instead of a washed-out grey, I used the red in the box logo to form a triangle between the eyes of the person, the box logo being read from left to right, and the type showcasing who the person in the photo is. The triangle layout for these assets allows for wherever the viewer's eye lands on the image first to then be led to other important parts of my design.
