Triplex Model Shoe
I was tasked to produce a triplex model replica of a shoe of my choose, restricted to a 1:1 scale of the chosen footwear item. The model (triplex prototype) had to include visible details such as vet holes, lacing, fabric lines, etc. No drawing instruments or paint were allowed to complete the task at hand. Supportive imagery and process photos were to be produced for the digital media course portfolio. Below you find the
Activity 1: Full Model Shoe
From the first process image I used two types of triplex paper 880 and 370 gsm to create the shoe sole at a 1:1 scale. I used masking tape to measure the shoe panels as accurately as possible 1:1. I created ridges to reinforce the inner part of the sole with 370 gsm triplex. I used a craft knife and steel ruler to cut straight line through the triplex while using clear adhesive glue and superglue to joint my sole and panels together. I had use sandpaper to even out the triplex edges/cuts. I mainly struggled with the toe cap of the shoe model getting the curve right but this was possible through scoring, bending and steaming. Keeping the shoe model clean was also a mission but not an impossible one.
                  Activity 2: Half Model Shoe
From the first process image I used two types of triplex paper 880 and 370 gsm to create the half shoe sole at a 1:1 scale. I mainly struggled with the toe cap of the half shoe model getting the curve right, but this was possible through scoring, bending and steaming. I had trouble getting the halfway mark aligned in the correct position. Keeping the half shoe model clean was not an issue.
Activity 3: Tooling Block
