Triplex Model Shoe
The purpose of this project is to create a 3D 1:1 scaled replica model of a footwear item using the medium Triplex. This shoe needs to have a similar complexity to a sneaker and has to include all visual details such as stitching and material thickness. This needs to be completed using techniques such as cutting, creasing, laminating and gluing. The following materials are also needed. Triplex board 370gsm, a craft knife, steel ruler, cutting mat, superglue and masking tape. The shoe has to be created within the given deadline.
Activity 1: Full Model Shoe
My process consisted of firstly tracing the sole of the shoe. I did this a few times and then cut them out using a pair of scissors as I found it faster and more accurate compared to a craft knife. I then proceeded to do the base of the shoe which I did using masking tape and a pencil to make a template. I then cut this template out and stuck it to the base of my shoe using masking tape on the inside combined with super glue. I did this 3 times to get 3 different layers on my model. I then proceeded to cut the buckle on my shoe as well as the top piece. I detailed each piece using nail tools as I went along. I then created a template for the top side piece of my shoe and stuck it using super glue and masking tape. I then used 220 grid sandpaper to smooth out all the edges before adding on the top part of my shoe. I doubled the outside piece of the back of my shoe and cut out triplex to add to the top sides to replicate the stitching. I then added finishing touches and allowed it to dry overnight.

Activity 2: Half Model Shoe
My process firstly consisted of tracing the sole of my shoe and then cutting it in half. I then traced my cut out stencil a few times to make the base of the shoe which I stuck together using superglue. I used masking tape to make a stencil of the first layer of my side sole. I stuck this to the bottom of my sole using tape to hold it together whilst I carefully glued it together using super glue and quick drying spray. I repeated this process twice after this to create different levels in my sole. I used steaming this time round instead of scouring as I wanted to improve on my neatness. I followed by tracing the side of my shoe on masking tape and then the top layer which I glued to the side. I did details last as well as the outer layers. I completed by making sure all pieces were stuck down the I proceeded to use a fine sandpaper to file down the edges and make them look neat.

Activity 3: Half Shoe Mold
My process for the mold started by me very accurately cutting out the shape of my shoe onto my triplex board with 50mm of space from the highest points. I then started with the base of my soul which I completed by following the same process as my half shoe. I used masking tape to make the stencil and then cut it, steamed it and stuck it to the bottom of my shoe cut out using masking tape to hold it whilst I put the glue on the inside of the box, so it was hidden. Once I was finished with the different layers of the soul, I made a stencil of the top parts of my shoe and then stuck them to the soul of my shoe as well as the sides of my cut out. I finished by closing the empty spaces with triplex and then finally I measured out the shape of my box which would go around my shoe. I used strong superglue and spray to get it to quickly dry before I sanded the edges.
