Audio Recording and Editing Project

The Goal of the project.
To create a 15 to 30-minute audio commercial for Acuvue contact lenses that provide its features advantages and benefits.

The target audience for the project.
This is aimed at those who wear glasses to convince them to use contact lenses.

The story or message conveyed through the project.
For special occasions or a normal day, why fumble with clumsy glasses, be free of facial furniture, and see the world with clarity at 180-degree view versus seeing things straight forward.

Include sections in your case study to explain how you approached shooting, editing, and the overall design of the video project. Consider including the following details:
Recording:
Describe your planning process.
Our instructions were to choose three brands and write a 15 – 30-minute commercial script for each. I choose Tide laundry detergent, Listerine mouthwash, and Acuvue contact lenses.
Since I am not the perfect writer I needed some starter text, so I jumped onto Chat GTP and asked for help. I gave some good ideas but was still too wordy for 15 – 30 seconds. I took a copywriting class in my last semester and the main point I recall from my professor was to always highlight the features, advantages, and benefits. With that, I narrowed down the scripts to 15 – 30 seconds of record time. I checked by using a timer when I read the scripts.
I chose Acuvue contact lenses because I am a consumer of the product. I used them the day before I wrote the script. Although I am supposed to wear them during the day, they were so comfortable I fell asleep with them on. And that was my conviction to create a full commercial for the product.

Discuss any equipment or techniques used during recording.
I used my laptop’s sound recorder to record the script. Purposely waited until midnight -1:00am to record as that was when my building it most quiet.

Editing:
Detail your editing workflow, including the software used and any specific editing techniques employed.
Editing was used in Adobe Audition. I am fairly new to the program but utilized Adobe Primer prior in two other semesters and was able to make some comparisons along with an instructional video from our class and an in-class session.

Discuss any challenges faced during the editing process and how you overcame them.
Since I understood the bare minimum of the features, I was able to cut the sound and voice recording up to create the audio I wanted, However, I noticed my voice dropped in some places and was not sure how to increase the volume. So there was some learning with that.

Highlight any creative decisions made during editing that contributed to the overall impact of the video.
One thing that happened during the editing process that I did not intend to do but gave the audio some more depth and layer was accidentally duplicating one of the sound effects on the same timeline. Successfully it added more creative impact and supported one more stop point in my audio to highlight a feature of the product.

Overall Design:
Explain your approach to audio design elements such as voiceover, music, and sfx.
My approach to the project was to make it sound fun, inviting, and pleasurable to the consumer. My voice needed to have a high joyful tone and the music and sound effects needed to match that. That would translate to the consumer that this a product they would want to try and give them the same feeling.

Discuss how you maintained coherence and communicated your message effectively through your choices.

Reflect on any feedback received during the design process and how it influenced your final design decisions.
When I first submitted my scripts, I reviewed them two or three times, however, they were returned to me with additional edits. It’s interesting how it helps when more than one pair of eyes to look over things. The edits made more sense, and I was able to create a more concise script.
