The Ulvetanna Down Suit offers the ultimate full body protection for high altitude mountaineers and polar explorers.  When Berghaus athlete Leo Houlding decided to attempt a new unclimbed route in Antarctica his clothing requirements were every bit as demanding as the climb itself. I designed an extreme weather down suit built to keep our athletes safe in temperatures as low as -50°C and prevent convective heat loss in wind-speeds up to 100 mph. The approach taken was unique. In 2012 I joined Leo and his team and set up a testing camp on a frozen sea fjord in Arctic Greenland for a week of intensive testing. Using state of the art technology we analysed competitor products and early prototypes to determine how to make the most thermally efficient suit possible.
