Porcelain Corset
Purpose:
embarked on the creation of this porcelain-inspired corset as a personal challenge to explore new materials and push the boundaries of my skills. After discovering a stunning porcelain corset on Pinterest that captured my imagination, I was deterred by its prohibitive cost. Determined to bring my vision to life, I resolved to craft my own rendition.
My aim was to capture the essence of the original while showcasing my proficiency with Worbla, a material I was eager to master. While conventional wisdom suggested such a project would take a week to complete, I set out to challenge myself, striving to accomplish it within a mere four hours.
what is a Porcelain Corset?
Inspired by the resurgence of Victorian-era fashion and the contemporary reinterpretation of corsets, I envisioned my creation not just as an artistic endeavor, but as a functional garment—a wearable piece of art. In the tradition of the Candy Makeup Artist, whose creations blur the lines between fashion and art, I sought to infuse my corset with both aesthetic appeal and practicality.
how did I approach this project:
Though traditional porcelain corsets are crafted from glass and porcelain—an impressive feat in its own right—I opted for a more accessible approach, utilizing Worbla, hot glue for intricate designs, and craft foam adorned with paint. The process was simultaneously exhilarating and demanding, as I navigated unfamiliar materials and techniques. However, with persistence and experimentation, I triumphed over the challenges, bringing my vision to fruition.
In crafting this porcelain-inspired corset, I not only honed my skills and expanded my creative horizons but also discovered the joy of pushing beyond the boundaries of familiarity. It stands as a testament to the transformative power of artistry and innovation, inspiring me to continue exploring new realms of expression.
STEPS:
1) I measured myself to get the right cut out size using clear wrap and tape.
2) by using the clear wrap i cut out the shape out of craft foam and then cut out the material that i needed from the worbla.
3) I used a heat gun to mold the worbla over the craft foam.
4) I used a mold and pour hot glue from a glue gun in the mold to make to accessories.
5) I spray painted the entire corset gold then waited for the paint to dry and added white white.
