TRIPLEX MODEL SHOE
I was assigned to produce an exact replica of my own footwear using only a white triplex board and the scale of shoe is 1:1. Industrial designers have to model their ideas so that other people can understand them. Basic model making skills are important, to sell ideas to clients.
Activity 1: Full Model Shoe
When I was working this project, I started with cutting templates using masking tape where I placed it on the shoe then I used a pen to draw out the shape of the template. I then placed the masking tape the triplex board. I then used a craft knife to cut out the template on the triplex board. After cutting, I then glue the pieces of cut out triplex together. When I was gluing the outer sole and midsole together I cut out small strips of triplex so that I can be able to glue the soles together without making them dirty with glue. With the parts it was easy to glue them together to archive the shoe. What took me the longest to detail was the pattern underneath of the outer sole because the pattern shapes are small and it is difficult to cut little shapes with a craft knife but I was able to finish in time. The glue took a long time dry and it was often frustrating because I would want to continue to working but I had to wait for the glue to dry, this project required a lot of patience.
Activity 2: Half Model Shoe
I was assigned to produce an exact replica of my own footwear using only a white triplex board and the scale of shoe is 1:1. I had to show the interior aspect of the shoe and also include the visible details that are found inside and outside of the shoe.
For this activity I used the same templates that I had cut out on the first activity. I would say with this activity, I was calmer and neater than the first activity because I avoided the mistakes that I had made on the first activity. I was able to play around triplex and manipulate it to get the edges to stick together without using a lot of glue, but still a lot of patience was required as I had to wait for the glue to dry. The challenge I faced with this activity was trying to make the half way point symmetrical to both pieces of the sole.
Activity 3: Tooling Block
I was assigned to produce an exact replica of my own footwear using only a white triplex board and the scale of shoe is 1:1. I had to show the "male" side of the footwear.
With this activity it challenged my level of thinking. It had to have inverted parts because it is a mould of a shoe. I had to imagine pressing my shoe into a block of soft clay, to help me see how it would look like. Gluing the pieces together was easy because they were accurate.
