Triplex Model Shoe

TRIPLEX MODEL SHOE
I was asked to recreate a specific sneaker type shoe only using the materials Triplex and glue. It must be an exact replica of the sneaker you chose, and it must be in the ratio 1:1. All visible detail must be shown to make the model look as similar as possible to the reference.
Activity 1: Full Model Shoe
I started with making and cutting the sole of the shoe, because I knew it would take the longest. I found that putting masking tape on the sole and coloring it with a pencil was the easiest for me to replicate the sole completely. I had to do it 2 times because the first time the masking tape ripped the triplex and I had to start over. While making the rest of the shoe I struggled bending the triplex like I wanted to, but the diamond shaped scoring worked the best. The clear glue I used didn't dry so fast so I used super glue and that bled through the triplex and left ugly marks, but I found that the clear glue works well you just must be patient.

Activity 2: Half Model Shoe
I started off with tracing the sole of my shoe and cutting it in half. I put masking tape on the real shoe to get the exact pattern of the sole and cut it out the triplex. Then I cut out the shapes of what is on the side of the shoe, and started glueing it to the side of the shoe I built up. To make the curve shape of the shoe with no support from the opposite side was difficult, but after a few trials and errors, I finally figured it out. At the end of the shoe, I peeled off the outside layer of triplex to make it more texturized.

Activity 3: Half Shoe Mold
This activity was especially hard for me to do, seeing that I didn't really know where to begin. You had to actually visualize how the shoe would go into clay. I once again started with the cut out of the sole, but this time in reverse. I then started making the layers of the shoe that would stand out the most and what would stand out less. With the layers I started to make the curve of the shoe, for support, so when I had to place it in the box, it would be easier to put the shoe in the correct shape. After I built the shoe, I traced the shape of the shoe, on a piece of triplex and started making the box. That was the easiest part of the whole shoe, because a box is just a box, and doesn't have to bend.
