Eating Through Seasons

Eating Through Seasons is a project I did in my 3rd year of study at Emily Carr. This project mainly focused on promoting the traditional healthy eating habits of China, which requires people to eat seasonally. These habits also create a harmonious relationship between human society and the natural world.

This is a sample screen of the Eating Though Seasons App that shows some of the recommended recipes. Users can view the directions and add the ingredients into their shopping lists directly from this App.

For example, the page above briefly touches upon a recommended spring diet, which would include a diet rich in fresh greens that correspond with the best vegetation offered by nature.

This is a sample page of Eating Though Seasons that specifically explains the relationship between humankind and nature during the beginning of spring. Since my target audiences are mainly Chinese immigrations in Vancouver, the publication is in two languages.

This illustration represents the summer solstice. The sun and earth in the background represent the solar altitude. The image of the girl holding an umbrella to shade herself from the sunlight is a reminder of the changes in temperature during the summer solstice; during the summer solstice, people can easily succumb to sunstroke due to prolonged exposure to the sun or excessive heat.
Eating Though Seasons also cames up with an smartphone App that shows some of the recommended recipes. Users can view the directions and add the ingredients into their shopping lists directly from this App.
The Phone App is the secondary media of the Eating Through Seasons project. The App allows users to update the recipes, and share new recipes with others. This helps foster greater interest in this form of eating, and helps secure the recommended healthy eating practices. The middle of the screen showcases a traditional Chinese calendar, which contains multiple dietary changes within one conventional North American season (for example, each season is divided into six distinct mini-seasons, reflecting the gradual change in climate conditions over the course of a three month period).
