what did you learned today. Did you learn anything new? Did you love it, hate it, were you indifferent/ Was it frustrating? Liberating?
What questions do you have left?

Today, we focus on the study of the famous photographer Ansel Adams, specifically his style of photos and the techniques he used when taking photos. This helped me better emulate and create something similar. Firstly, I learned that Adam felt that colors were a distraction; therefore, we observe the pattern of monochrome throughout his works. Another new thing I learned was the Zone System that Adam incorporates in much of his work. By using the Zone System, Adam was able to separate a gradient scale from total black to pure white into 11 zones. He then utilized this to determine the best exposure for deep shadows and further enhancement for bright highlights in his photos. This allows for high detail and balanced picture tone-wise. I love this technique and the outcomes, as I do see a contrast of deep shadows and bright highlights in his photos.

When I tried to emulate Adam's work, I felt like the editing part was very vital and important, as all Adam did was choose a nice location and start taking landscape photos. But the editing and consideration of details, I believe, are what really separate him from other photographers. Therefore, I took a long time editing my photos, making it a frustrating experience.
