VR Narnia - book fair

Virtual Reality
Welcome to Narnia
Goal
Our goal is to create a VR experience of Narnia (as an example) for a book fair for families to try and engage them to buy and read the book by offering them an immersive experience of what to explore of Narnia as it's described in the book.

The final result is a prototype

Insights about virtual reality
VR:
It's a CG simulation of a 3D environment which you can interact with in a physical way by wearing a VR headset and controllers. VR is triggering the senses in the brain to get a feeling of what you see is real.

Benefits of VR:
It's immersive and interactive which can redefine the way we experience the world of books. By combining with a story VR can encourage engagement but also enhance the reading experience by allowing readers to explore the world in a certain book and immersing themselves in the world of the book and experiencing it firsthand.

Safety guidelines:
There is no official age limit but for some VR headsets they are recommended that children are at least 10 or 13 years old to use them. It’s also recommended to take breaks and having a safe empty space around you when wearing a VR headset and controllers. So our solution shouldn't be a very time consuming experience but just an VR introduction to a book's world inside when people at the book fair want to know more about a book and make them want to read the book.

Discovery
Once upon a time we went on discovery in the world of books to explore what books we were fascinated by as children. We collected book titles and made mood boards from these to gather inspiration for further ideation.
Reflection
We looked at books for young children to YA (young adult) books. What caught our interest were the great world building and storytelling in Narnia, a fantasy world with immersive rememberable environments.

The entrance to Narnia through the wardrobe to a winter cold environment with a lamppost is what made us explore this book further because it's so unique storytelling and is a great parallel to the transition from reality to virtual (and magical) reality!

Narnia
Narnia is a fantasy world where it's especially memorable by its story elements: the empty spare room with a wardrobe, the lamppost in the forest, the ice castle, and the stonetable.
Overview over visual style
Style
We want to achieve a hyper realistic experience style to get the feeling of being an explorer inside the Narnia universe and what the world offers in the book. From living in your own ordinary world to walk to into Narnia like in the book where you get the feeling of being small in a huge hyper realistic magical world.
