Graphic designers employ a range of techniques to convey ideas visually. My aim was to explore into different methods of revitalizing an everyday object, aiming to craft a more compelling image that prompts viewers to perceive the object differently. I initiated my exploration by choosing yarn as the subject, intending to experiment with six distinct creative approaches or techniques.

Here are the results of this experimentation process:
Glimmering Threads
Creative Strategy used: Combination/Juxtaposition

By putting together a ball of yarn and a light bult, I was able to create a new object. Now it's just not the filament what makes this light bulb shine, but the threads of the yarn as well. I worked with different images, masks and different blend modes on the Layers' panel.
Yarn't supposed to be there
Creative Strategy used: Isolation

This was a really simple form of isolation, by separating one of the wool balls by color and contrast, creating a focal point where the red wool ball is, by showing that object is not supposed to be with the others due to how it's organized. I created this composition by using the object selection tool, layer's blend modes and the Hue/Saturation option in the layer's adjustments.

Creative Strategy used: Metaphor or Simile

I wanted to play with the idea of "life pending on a thread". I thought that by replacing one of the metric lines on a heart rate machine, this idea could be percived. It was really hard to work with this one, and I tried multiple things that ended up not working. This is the final result of experimenting with two different images, using the lazo tool, and starting move portions of a thread around to create this part of the metrics.
Warmest type of cold
Creative Strategy used: Change of context or environment

When I was trying to make connections on what a yarn made me think, I instantly thought about sweaters and how they can keep us warm in cold weathers. By creating a snowman made out of yarn, I wanted to work on this duality. To create this, I use different images, the selection tool, layer's blend modes and the Hue/Saturation option in the layer's adjustments.
Tied Together
Creative Strategy used: Physical Shape Similarity

Connections is what makes us human. And somehow, we are all conected. We share different things with people with all over the world. With this idea in mind, I wante to comunicate how we can be conected, no matter where we are. I used two different images, masks, and some other tools to make the yarn look more cohesive with its background.
Orange you glad it's yarn?
Creative Strategy used: Material Change, Swap or Focus

Expecting the unexpected was the main concept for this composition. We don't image to find something resembling an orange if we take a ball of yarn and cut it in half. However, this is what happened in here. I used different images, masks, the selection tool, layer's blend modes and the different Color Balance layers in the layer's adjustments to create cohesive lights and shadows.
Thank you!
