Project 11: Off the Computer
So this project took a lot of weird turns. While working on this project, I spent two weeks working from home in Baltimore to be with my family during my great grand mothers funeral and then to attend a number of other family related events. Unfortunately, there was a second death in my family while I was there that was sudden, tragic and so hard to wrap my mind around that I decided to change my project to represent what I was feeling.
Originally this project was going to be about reaching for your dreams but this installment is about reaching out for help. I don’t want to go into too many details out of respect but I wanted to show people the despair that a person (and their family) feels while struggling with drug addiction.
He reaches out of the Darkness for someone to pull him into the light
There are 6 cards/circles and each has a portion of a saying that you can read as the cards get lighter. You look through a small hole at the front which distorts the image inside and makes it appear a bit surreal. I decided to keep the outside white because you never really know whats going on inside someones head or what they are struggling with.
Per the project brief, I incorporated arms as the accordion sides to visually represent reaching out for help.
Props to Maggie for being my awesome model!
