Maha Vira Yoga - A Transformative Journey

Maha Vira Yoga - A Transformative Journey

The path of self-discovery and transformation continues for Jaka, who is currently immersed in the third week of the currently ongoing iteration of the Maha Vira Yoga Instructor Course in Richmond, Virginia.

This six-month hybrid course combines online coursework with regular Zoom meetings and face-to-face classes every other week where students reinforce the techniques, material and lessons learned from the weekly coursework. Jaka, who resides in Chesapeake, Virginia, makes the 80-mile journey twice a month to partake in these transformative sessions.

Led by the experienced instructor J. Miles, the Maha Vira Yoga Instructor Course is an exploration useful technology for both mind and body. The course delves into the essence of yoga as a discipline which, much like martial arts, demands a balance of form, discipline, and adaptability.  J. Miles, who also happens to be a Kung Fu martial artist, explains that people from different backgrounds and varying levels of prior yoga knowledge and practice often take part in this course.

"A willingness to learn and dedicated effort are what matters at the end of the day. That's enough for us to grow together. One shouldn’t be so focused on the form that they are distracted from their breathing and the internal process. When needed, we modify and we keep in mind each individuals capabilities and level of comfort.”

For Jaka, the transformative learning process prompts a shift in perspective and understanding. She says, “there is so much to learn and the more I read, the more I rethink how I see things now and how I have seen them in the past. If I’m honest, I sometimes get the feeling that I am not where I need to be but at the same time, this is also beautiful because I see my potential. I definitely realized the physical benefits after our first face-to-face session.”

As she continues down this road, Jaka emphasizes the significance of community in the learning process, stating, “I’m new to Virginia and aside from the prenatal yoga classes I’ve taken previously, a lot of this is quite new to me as well.  I’m very glad to share this experience in a group good people where I feel safe enough to ask questions.”

Maha Vira, meaning great hero in Sanskrit, aims to teach the mental, physical, and spiritual disciplines which allow students access to their highest potential for greatness.  For more information about the Maha Vira Yoga Instructor Course, visit here.
