GOTTA BE COMPLEX

A REDO of one of my first ever Photoshopped images.

My first proper pair of Jordans were a pair called, the Air Jordan Spizike. This shoe was a Frankenstein’d Air Jordan paying homage to the film Director Spike Lee and Mars Blackmon, a character he played in his film “She’s Gotta Have it” through his film company, 40 Acres and a Mule.

The filmworks name “40 Acres and a Mule” was inspired by the unfulfilled wartime order of the same name. This order would have allotted land to freed families during the Civil War, promising slaves up to 40 acres of land and mules to be lent out.

An image of Mars Blackmon and the logo for 40 Acres and a Mule can be seen on the heels of this shoe. Me being a “sneakerhead” and freshly introduced to Photoshop at the time, took a particular liking to the logo of Mars Blackmon. I crudely placed my name in place of the city name “Brooklyn” on the hat brim and further edited the image to call the piece my own. This is a "redo" of that first image I made.
