MURAL DESIGN
LOVELOUD MURAL

A Collaborative Design Project for Good. For this project, our UVU design student team joined forces with the LOVELOUD Foundation, an organization founded to support LGBTQ+ youth and bring communities and families together to show love. Our collective objective was to increase brand awareness by creating two murals for LOVELOUD and their annual festival.

The Team:
Brooke Rodriguez: Designer/Muralist, Project Manager
Lindsay Biesinger: Designer/Muralist, Project Site Coordinator
Lindsey Bunton: Designer/Muralist, Director of Branding
Claire Sorensen: Designer/Muralist, Creative Director

Type: Mural (20'x90'), Step and Repeat Temp Mural (10'x 7.5')
Location: Salt Lake City, UT
Date: 04.21.22
Phase 1: Research & Proposals
To gain a deeper understanding of LOVELOUD, we gathered examples of the brand including logos, color palettes, and any previous festival assets. Then, we corresponded with the client to set project parameters, cover potential mural locations, and share moodboards for potential stylistic directions.

At this point we submitted a client project proposal to ensure we were all on the same page. In the proposal we covered budget, location scouting, materials, and timeline.
Phase 2: Initial Designs
We launched the design portion of our project by presenting three concepts (with three directions each) at a client meeting. During this time we were able to explore client preferences, brainstorm new directions, and cover possible options for the space.
Phase 3: LOVELOUD Jazz Night
At the previous meeting, our project had separated into two separate murals. One traditional and one reusable step and repeat that would be put up at LOVELOUD night, an event hosted by Vivint Smart Home Arena and the Utah Jazz.
Phase 4: SLC Mural
Our Location was Torrent Cycle, a LGBTQ+ owned Indoor Cycling Studio in Salt Lake City, has excitedly accepted our offer to paint a LOVELOUD mural on the side of their downtown location. We primed the wall, sketched the design, labeled colors, completed black detail painting, color blocked and finished color edging.
Public Reception
On the final day of painting, a reporter from KSL news recorded our mural and interviewed Claire. In addition to their story, we have received so much love from the community, social media, and our own friends and family.
