Clarendon | A Type Specimen Project

In my typography class we were asked to create a type specimen booklet by picking one typeface out of a list of popular typefaces from the Old-style, Transitional, Modern, and Slab Serif categories. In my case, I chose Clarendon as it is one of my favorite Slab-Serif typeface.

We were given 2 weeks to create sketches, mock-ups, and a final product. Not only were we to create a type specimen but we were asked to create a theme that went along well with the typeface. In this case, I chose to go with an industrial revolution / western newspaper theme playing with the contrast of thick and thin line weights. The type specimen features a bit of history about the typeface as well as showing how the typeface can be used in different circumstances.

During the time I created this project I was also taking a printmaking course which gave me the opportunity to use Clarendon as stencils in monoprints as well.
