The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Book Cover

The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe Book Cover
I created a book cover for C.S. Lewis's The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe using Adobe Photoshop. I wanted the design to be simple, so I made it look like a woodblock print.

This is a rendering of the Aslan's resurrection scene towards the climax of the story. Aslan the lion, who stands tall and nobly, is the center focus of the picture. Behind him is the broken Stone Table from which he was sacrificed and has now returned to life. In the background, I put a tree to represent new life and rays of sunlight to show that light has overcome darkness.

I made everything royal blue because it is a strong color that denotes power and majesty. And finally, I selected the typeface "French Script MT" because it looks fantastical and adds to the cover's middle ages aesthetic.
These are 10 thumbnail sketches I made to help brainstorm through composition and layout.
Above are the clip art images that inspired me stylistically and compositionally.
This is my first composition sketch.
Above is the second composition sketch.
This is my third and final composition test. After looking through these three sketches, I decided to build off the second sketch. I found it engaging and unique, while also achievable within my timeframe.

I loved working on this project, and I am happy with how it turned out! I learned how to creatively answer problems, design strong compositions, and how to work on a project wholistically. Below is another picture of the final image.
