Client: Sydney Southeast Asia Centre (SSEAC), an initiative by Sydney University
SSEAC supports research, education, and partnership with the region – one of which being regular training programs facilitated by presentation slides and workbooks. For this purpose, I was commissioned by the institution to provide a set of 40 illustrations responding to a given set of scenarios set in Indonesia, in a short timespan of two weeks including ideation, drafting (some scenarios were drawn in multiple options), and allocated buffer time for revisions.
While needed to accommodate time constraints – the illustrations, ultimately serving humanitarian causes, were made with empathy and outreach in mind. The characters portray various walks of life, some appear consistently to connect multiple contexts or suggest a brief storyline. The style uses quick, simple strokes for easiest production and revisions, yet able to capture expressions. The colour palette reflects the brand's primary colour (reddish-orange), which is placed strategically in complement with familiar tones from the daily lives.
