Świnoujście is a city worth visiting

Świnoujście is one of the most popular seaside resorts in Poland and offers tourists a wide range of attractions, including beaches, a pier, a lighthouse, the Spa Park, the Maritime Museum and many others.
Undoubtedly, the symbol and at the same time the recognizable sign of Świnoujście is the Water Mill, also known as "Stawa Młyny", as well as the beautiful sandy beaches and the Świnoujście Lighthouse.
In 2022, Świnoujście was visited by 9 million tourists, including 2.5 million one-day tourists. Most tourists came from Poland (80%), Germany (10%), the Czech Republic (5%) and Slovakia (3%).
Arriving tourists will be delighted by the sight of three of the four fortifications - Western Fort, Fort Angel and Fort Gerhard. Unfortunately, the Fort in Warszów was destroyed in the 1970s.
Fort IV, i.e. the West Fort, was built in the years 1856-1861 and was a fort of the Prussian Świnoujście Fortress, intended to defend the port against enemy ships.
Fort Gerhard, also called the Eastern Fort, is located in the eastern part of Świnoujście, in the Warszów district, on Wolin Island, near the lighthouse. It was built in 1848-1859 and its purpose was to defend the port and the Świna Strait against the enemy fleet.
Angel Fort was built at the end of the 19th century and its purpose was to protect the nearby Western Fort from attacks from the land.
All four forts, which were located in close proximity to each other, formed a complete defense system of the Świnoujście Fortress.
While traveling through Świnoujście, it is also worth visiting the tower, which is a viewing point in Świnoujście. Before the war, there was an evangelical church in this place dedicated to Fr. Martin Luther, built in the neo-Gothic style. However, it was significantly damaged during the ongoing war and was subsequently demolished.
The above-mentioned Świnoujście lighthouse dates from 1858 and stands at a height of 68 m above sea level. and has 308 steps, which is quite a challenge for people climbing to the very top.
The Świnoujście lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in Europe.
Finally, it is worth noting that in the past, near the beach in Świnoujście, there was the border between Poland and the Federal Republic of Germany, of which a monument remains, as well as a beach that connects the two nations.
