The Turkey and Syria earthquake of 2023 was one of the deadliest natural disasters in the region’s recent history. The disaster affected many lives, leaving families devastated and communities struggling to rebuild. However, the story of one survivor has become a beacon of hope for those affected.

In this interview, we share the inspiring story of a Syrian earthquake survivor who lost his wife and many members of his family, but whose determination and perseverance helped him overcome unimaginable tragedy.

As an animator and artist, I was drawn to this story and chose to draw and animate his interview for Alhurra channel.

The survivor’s story is both heartbreaking and uplifting. He recalls the moment when he found his daughter’s hand sticking out from under a large stone and how he dug through the rubble with his bare hands to rescue her. This powerful moment is a testament to the human spirit’s strength and resilience.

As someone who loves animation and drawing, I was particularly moved by this survivor’s story. The use of animation and drawing can help to bring attention to important causes and stories that might otherwise go unheard. I hope that my work can contribute to raising awareness about the tragedy of the Turkey and Syria earthquake and encourage people to donate to help those affected.
