Through the thorns, to the Stars

Through the Thorns, to the Stars
The six words I chose were the loose latin translation of “Per aspera ad astra,” which means through adversity to the stars. However, one of my favorite books translates this latin phrase to “Through the thorns, to the stars.” This quote always stuck with me and has since resonated with me.

I chose to do a literal visual depiction of this quote, showing myself stuck in thorns, reaching out to a galaxy full of stars. The entire poster is done in shades of purple and given a purple hue, due to the color purple symbolizing magic and creativity. Being creative and expressing myself has helped me push through the challenges I’ve faced.

In the poster, I am wearing a saree, a traditional Indian article of clothing. This saree is green, symbolizing growth and development, which implies how the challenges you face make you grow as a person. This color is also the only different color in the poster, making me stand out.

The animation features my hand reaching out to the star and subtle head and body movements. This combined with the movement of the thorns wrapped around my arm imitates a struggle. The stars twinkle in the background as the text appears.

This poster ultimately represents hope and resilience even in the face of adversity, which is an extremely important lesson I have learned.
