Getting off the beaten path in Lake Tahoe.  We ventured up to Echo Lake.  It is a gateway to the Desolation Wilderness.  We had started a multi-day hike here a few years before and visited it often with our friends.  Our plan was to hike up to the top of the lake and back with 5 kids and 8 adults.  It was cooler up at the lake but still a bit warm.  Everyone was game at the start.  As we kept hiking we had hints that all was not well with a few of the kids.  Plan B was hatched.  Hike to the top of the second lake and take the shuttle boat back down.  A potential meltdown was saved and an adventure was created.

Docks.  There are many grandfathered cabins along the lake.  The main access is by boat.
Maya from the flat land of Florida was our most enthusiastic hiker!

The day is saved.  We called the boat from a small phone booth located at the top of the lake.  Within minutes the boat arrived to ferry all of us back to where we started.
