East Germany On Film - Ilford HP5, Portra 400
“Get outta your comfort zone” is what everyone says and after my trip to West Germany I can safely say THAT has been the definition of the comfort zone and the result were a couple of the most disappointing photos I ever took.

Anyway, I can now confirm that “Discomfort” actually makes it easier for me to focus on what makes me happy and eventually come up with pictures I am… happier with. Also, after decades of denying black and white photography I realised color can be a distraction and shooting in black and white does not necessarily result in a nostalgic cringefest. Much rather it allows the essence of a subject to shine through in its purest form.

The absence of color compels you to focus on the shapes and forms of a scene, revealing details that might otherwise have been overlooked. In a world saturated with color, black and white photography stands out as a bold rebellion, a celebration of simplicity.
