Capturing pain or illness as a physical art is hard. When I thought about making something unseen visible I thought about this condition as it effects a lot of women in my family.

Having a creative outlet for me has always helped in difficult situations including illness.

The use of the ballerina symbolises beauty- I feel that everyone is beautiful regardless of any struggles they are facing, externally or otherwise and the ballerina encapsulates this. The colour scheme is based on dullness which is why I have avoided a bright palate - this simultaneously highlights the dull aching feeling, and the overwhelming isolation a lot of people with endometriosis feel. The red string which often steals to attention of the viewer then highlights the inner turmoil that the person with Endo “dances” with.
When creating the video I cut out loads of still of her limbs and dresses and laid them over the floor. I noticed that some stills were wrong and have an overlap of string/were messy.
I made the conscious decision of leaving this in for the recording to showcase how Endometriosis is not neat and tidy -  in fact it’s messy!
