In 1928 the equal franchise act was passed in UK Parliament, Finally, after years of protest, women were awarded the same voting rights as men. The Success of the womens Suffrage movement marks a revolution in the fight for democracy, gender equality and social change.
 
I chose to depict the hammers to denote suffrage for two reasons - Firstly, their historically significance. During demonstrations, many of the more militants suffragettes would smuggle hammers in their bags before unleashing them on the windows of well known businesses and political institutions. - Secondly, as a symbol of the strength and resilience of the movement against powerful political opposition.
