818 Tequila 3D Commercial

brief
For this project, we were tasked with crafting a television commercial promoting an SMS competition for a beverage. While there were specific guidelines, we were granted creative freedom in our approach. The assets were to be rendered with a photorealistic appearance and later composited using After Effects. A key element involved showcasing the drink's cap opening to unveil a hidden code, which viewers could scan with their cellphones as part of the competition. I chose to center my commercial around the Tequila brand 818.

Process
My process started with sketching out the scenes, contemplating camera movements, and strategizing object animations within the scenes. Following this, I did some online research to gather style references, exploring the brand's marketing strategies and aesthetic presentation. Once I had gathered enough information, I finalized a color palette and began constructing my scene to align with the brand's aesthetic. This phase proved time-consuming due to a few alterations in my initial concept, prompting revisions along the way.
my initial idea
The brand's visual identity leans towards neutral tones such as browns, greys, and greens, which I aimed to emulate in my project. I chose the following color palette to replicate the same look and feel as seen in their branding images. I shifted away from my initial concept as it seemed incongruent with the brand's visual identity. Instead, I developed a new scene that resonated more closely with the brand's marketed images, transitioning towards a more defined and minimalist approach.

reflection
The project ultimately came together nicely. Initially, I faced challenges while refining the animation's style, and my concept underwent a few changes, making it challenging to envision a cohesive animation. However, once I settled on a style I found fitting, everything fell into place. I acquired new skills throughout this project, particularly in utilizing layered shaders to craft bottle labels. Additionally, I learned to employ MASH to create droplets on the bottles and simulate salt around the glass rim.
