The Japanese Lantern table was inspired by traditional Japanese joinery, architecture and festive lanterns. The object was to create a design that would utilize the capabilities of a CNC machine, and the economy of shipping flat packed. Additionally, as with traditional Japanese joining methods, no hardware is utilized, as the finger joints along the edge of the side panels are designed to have a nice snug friction fit. The top is likewise held in place by snug fitting fingers reaching up through recesses in the top. In addition to referencing Japanese lanterns, the table also houses a lantern in a round concealed drawer.
