SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated comedy television series created by marine science teacher and animator Stephen Hillenburg for Nickelodeon. It tells about the adventures of the main character and his friends-divers in the fictional underwater city of Bikini Bottom. Nickelodeon showed a preview of the series in the United States on May 1, 1999, after the 1999 Kids' Choice Awards. The official premiere of the series took place on July 17, 1999.
