The East Coast Mainline is one of the principal arteries which run through Yorkshire, and hence one of the most important as it has the ability to implant a perception of the region into the mind of the traveler.  Apart from the larger settlements such as Doncaster, York, and Darlington, the area is largely anonymous.  A flat and relatively featureless landscape characterises the region along much of the route.

The proposed intervention helps the train passenger to locate them self along the East Coast Mainline between Doncaster and Darlington; drawing attention to otherwise unknown small settlements along the route.  The aim is to enrich the experience of train travel through the region and make 'somewhere' of places which would otherwise be 'nowhere'.
