When I interviewed this client, she needed areas like a planters display area, a cafe, an office, displaying areas for plants.
I pointed out that it would be interesting to add contemplation areas so in this way people would want to stay in the green house, somehow transforming it in park where you could go choose your plants than grab a coffee and stick around.
The amoeba shaped structure encapsulates completely the green house. Within the structure it was placed Saran to protect the plants and it would create a playful interaction with the light and shadow in the different spaces and based in the distinctive activities that go on.
As I was designing a structure, architecture and interiors for the GreenHouse I also wanted to play with it’s landscape. Creating geometries with plants and also guiding people when they are walking within the green house.
The materials and colours chosen were intended to bring warmness into the spaces because of the coldness of the concrete, with this combination it would bring balance.
As mentioned before, the concept of the green house is this interconnection with both the structure, its architecture and the interiors. Inside the cafe you can see how its counter and benches follow this amoeba shape to keep the concept more alive inside.
An important thing to point out is how the amoeba shaped structure reflects in the architecture of the cafe, the planters display area and the office in this way it would feel more integrated.
I researched landscape designer, Piet Oudolf. He has created many beautiful and successful projects around the world by creating this geometrical play with plants.
