Macbeth Conceptual Book Covers

Macbeth: Conceptual Book Covers
For this project I had to create three completely different conceptual book covers for Macbeth by William Shakespeare. With the goal to create a typographic, handmade, and choice book cover, I set out to work to come up with creative and original ideas for my book covers. Each cover represents a creative strategy and symbolizes a key message from the book Macbeth.
This project was so exciting for me because I felt that I was able to be endlessly creative with my ideas and concepts!
The covers:
Typographic Book Cover
This was my typographic book cover. A goal I had set in mind for this cover was to make it simple, yet bold. I wanted the red "Macbeth" to stand out with the red blood dripping off the crown. I wanted to symbolize the fact that Macbeth got his crown due to the blood of others that he shed for it. The creative strategy in this book cover is isolation because of the plain background that emphasizes the crown and words.
Handmade Book Cover
This book cover took a lot of love and dedication! I wanted to express the stress and control that Macbeth was under due to the witches prophesy's. I hand painted this book cover and then put it into Adobe Illustrator to finish up some last touches like the text. This book cover uses the creative strategy of metaphor/ simile because Macbeth is being played like a puppet on strings.
Choice Book Cover
This may be my personal favorite cover! I love the way this cover turned out because of the vibrant colors and strong symbolism. I wanted to convey that Macbeth, who became king, is like the king of this chess board. He is the only one on the board because he lost everyone around him. Macbeth also seems like he is being controlled at times because of prophesy's he was given. Even though he is ultimately in control, he uses his prophesy's as an excuse to do horrible things. I wanted to show off the creative strategy of metaphor/simile for this cover as well.
Conclusion:
I have become proud of the hard work that I put into this project! I feel that I was able to effectively communicate strong ideas of symbolism through these conceptual ideas. This project has certainly taught me a thing or two about the Adobe programs, and I feel that I have become a better designer because of what I have learned!
