My Senior Thesis collection was inspired behind the mythology of the Phoenix.  The story behind this bird in its stages of life, death and rebirth.
I started researching each stage of  life, death and rebirth and recorded inspirations for each of these cycles.
I wanted to create my own textiles and started with the most obvious inspiration being feathers.
My manipulation experimentation began evolving into laser cutting and trying to immulate branches and the nest of the Phoenix.
While the life cycle is a natural occurance I began having dye experiments with natural materials.  I fell in love with the Arashi Shibori technique and eco bundling.  I wanted to show the idea of the Phoenix's nest being on fire.  The silhouettes I began creating and kept throughout the collection are strong yet feminine.
First muslin development.  After much experimentation the fabric manipulation I used is a technique called honeycomb pleating.  It is a series of box pleats and using a lot of hand sewing to create tucks within the pleats.
After much experimentation I narrowed down my final looks for this collection.  While this isnt the exact final, I kept most of the design details.
Muslin looks 1-3 development.
I developed my own print for this collection using my 3D manipulation to portray a 2D print.  I overlayed this texture with an image of fire.  For the dress it is used in I layered the print using an organza over a charmeuse so when the model walks it seems she is actually on fire.
Final garments. Looks 1-5. Some have not been hemmed or have facings/finishings.

Garment tags and hang tags created for the collection. The garment tags were digitally printed and the hang tags were laser engraved.

One of my pieces was also displayed at the SCAD senior static show.

Preparing for SCAD Jury Show.  It was such an honor to be chosen to show my work to industry professionals and speak one on one to some of my jurors(Eddie Borgo and David Zyla) about my collection.
