Being and Nothingness
Clay sculptures (2020)
This series of sculpture pay homage to the strength and resilience of women in society. These biomorphic forms resemble the endurance of a female body. It unfurls the layers of femininity, an entity that in its fragile form brings about the origin of a new beginning, the beginning of humankind.
The empty spaces and coarseness generate a dialogue between absence and presence, delicate and at the same time evoking strength. Portraying the physicality of a body experienced from within, these forms depict the female body in its non-fabricated existence.
It is a portrayal of psychological realism in the realm of abstraction. Poignant and ambiguous in their representation, these anthropomorphic forms redefine the male gaze.
