Project 1- Work From Home
The perimeter of this assignment was to create a "Zoom room" in light of the recent pandemic. Students were to use their current bedroom's dimensions to design a space to accommodate the work-at-home lifestyle we have become accustomed to. I utilized my bedroom's dimensions but decided to design and arrange custom furniture to showcase my ideal "Zoom room."

Please keep in mind this is an introductory course. These drawings are my first attempts at scaled hand drafting. They are not perfect but will act as a starting point for my journey in architectural design.
Floor Plan- This was the first portion of the project. Planning the space with this view in mind was helpful as it forced me to consider the flow of movement through the space.

I chose to divide the "sleep half" and the "work half" of the room with a bookshelf that doubles as a room divider. This is a functional way to create a designated work space without disrupting the room's aesthetic.

The addition of a rug felt necessary to bring the two halves of the room together. The rug acts as the glue. Its organic form was also intentional to break away from all of the angular furniture.
Elevations- Adapting all of the furniture to this view forced me to consider the height of all the objects and how they would interact with the environment.

This view effectively shows the different textures of my corner desk. The wider section of the desk against the North wall is made out of wood. It is a traditional writing desk that is connected to the section against the East wall. This section is an aluminum cabinet and drawer system with a glass countertop. The versatility of this desk makes it ideal for the work-from-home setting.

Reflected Ceiling Plan- Noting down all of the outlets and switches in my room was integral to planning the layout of the space.

Due to the placement of outlets on the North and West walls, I decided to place the bed and desk near them as I tend to charge my devices in these areas.

My bedroom has no ceiling light, so either a floor or table lamp would be necessary to provide lighting. I did not include a light by the activated switch in my drawings. However, I did leave room for either a desk light or a floor light next to the window. From experience, a small desk light provides all the lighting I need with the addition of clip-on spot lighting to provide more focused lighting.
