Counter Culture Magazine

Counter Culture Magazine was a collaborative project meant to showcase local Atlanta restaurants, thrift shops, and artists. The magazine was to target college students and young professionals in the Atlanta area looking for places to study, things to research, and interesting locations to visit.
The project was meant to force us to think of ideas outside the box, and focus on what would grab the target market's atention most. The magazines created were not to focus on fashion or accessories. By creating Counter Culture magazine, we played into the locals perspective of Atlanta in a trendy way which we felt had not been tapped into in publication form enough.
Counter Culture was designed to come out three times a year, with one special issue for holiday or summer, with a focus on Interior Design. The color palette of the logo on the front cover as well as the packaging of the magazine would change with the seasons. To mix up the contemporary portrait style of magazines, Counter Culture was designed landscape and at a smaller size. The magazine was also packaged in a quart size gold paint can with the label around the front, and the barcode on the bottom.

Three Page Article I created on Savvy Snoot, a local Interior Thrift Store on Atlanta's Westside at the time. Research included visiting multiple other thrift stores for comparisons, and interviewing one of the store's owners. Photographs taken myself.
Advertisement layout I created on local Atlanta Art Gallery, Kibbee Gallery.
A standing feature of the magazine was a list of each of our current favorite Atlanta shops, restaurants and art galleries.
Back Cover of the magazine with a different artistic quote for each issue.
