Artists in my agency were asked to re-imagine an image from one of our favorite stories. I grew up reading the YA novel The Thief Lord and it immediately came to mind. I reread the book and combined several motifs to create this new mock cover. The colors were inspired by vintage photos of Venice taken at sunset. My intent was to create an illustration as magical and as intriguing as the book itself. Enjoy!
