Greek Myths Sculpture

The images of Greek mythology in the books I read as a child ignited my interest in ancient stories. This series of 9 sculptures and 2 bas reliefs was completed this year as a personal vision project.Originals created in terra cotta.
NIKE (or Nicé) was the winged goddess or spirit(daimon) of victory, both in battle and peaceful competition.
Furies were female spirits of justice and vengeance. Known especially for pursuing people who had murdered family members, the Furies punished their victims by driving them mad. When not punishing wrongdoers on earth, they lived in the underworld and tortured the damned.
Dionysus (Διόνυσος, Diónysos) God of wine, parties and festivals, madness, chaos, drunkenness, drugs, and ecstasy. The idea was originally from ancient Chios. This was his "home".
Icarus  (IK-uh-rus) Son of Daedalus who dared to fly too near the sun on wings of feathers and wax. Daedalus had been imprisoned by King Minos of Crete within the walls of his own invention, the Labyrinth. But the great craftsman's genius would not suffer captivity. He made two pairs of wings by adhering feathers to a wooden frame with wax. Giving one pair to his son, he cautioned him that flying too near the sun would cause the wax to melt. But Icarus became ecstatic with the ability to fly and forgot his father's warning. The feathers came loose and Icarus plunged to his death.
Athena (Ἀθηνᾶ, Athēnâ) Goddess of intelligence, skill, peace, warfare, battle strategy, handicrafts, and wisdom.
Medusa,”guardian, protectress", was a monster, a Gorgon, generally described as having the face of a hideous human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair.
Hestia (Ἑστία, Hestía)  Virgin goddess of the hearth, home and chastity.
GAIA Mother Earth, Mother Nature-The first Greek god was actually a goddess. She is Gaia, or Mother Earth, who created herself out of primordial chaos. From her fertile womb all life sprang, and unto Mother Earth all living things must return after their allotted span of life is over.
